Designed for Aesthetics in Repose: The Ultra-Slim Folding Shelf Bracket
FLATTA is an ultra-slim folding shelf bracket with a profile of just 3 cm. It is the latest addition to TANNER, a DIY brand by Tanabe Metal Works—a hardware manufacturer founded in 1883 and rooted in the long-standing metalworking industry of Osaka, Japan.
While many conventional folding brackets are designed to be lifted from below, FLATTA features a newly engineered mechanism that is lowered from above. This top-down operation allows for furniture to be placed underneath the shelf or for the shelf to be used as a simple table with chairs.
The design conceals the structural components typically visible in general folding brackets, enhancing safety when folded. Given the nature of folding shelves—often used as temporary storage or desks—we focused on the fact that they spend more time folded than in use. Our design goal was to make the product’s presence and aesthetic as beautiful as possible, even when not in active use.
It is perfectly sized for small work surfaces or simple desks in kitchens and laundry rooms.
