Toothbrush made from thinned wood
In the field of toothbrushes—particularly within hotel amenities—there is a rapid shift toward plastic-free and low-carbon solutions. While there is a growing demand for products made from natural materials that offer both an appealing texture and a reduced environmental footprint, balancing these qualities with hygiene and comfort has long been a challenge. Designed to bridge this gap, the Zero Plastic Handle™ utilizes CXP—a next-generation, wood-derived molding material—for its handle.

The inherent water absorption and surface roughness of natural materials often pose operational difficulties in hotel environments. To ensure effortless hygiene management without compromising the material’s organic texture, the handle was engineered with high-precision molding, achieving a smooth surface and low water-absorbency. This structural approach minimizes the risk of mold growth and enhances practical usability in professional settings.

The form of the toothbrush was developed through an exploration of ergonomics, catering to both a firm grip and a delicate “pencil grip” for precise brushing. This resulted in a handle with a flattened hexagonal cross-section. By ensuring the shape itself serves as a foundation for functionality, the design avoids the common compromise where environmental responsibility comes at the expense of comfort.

Utilizing raw materials from thinned wood and forestry by-products, the material possesses a soft tactile quality and a subtle woody scent that integrates seamlessly into hotel interiors. Rather than making an overt statement, the product is designed to enhance the guest experience through its understated presence and texture. Zero Plastic Handle™ is the result of an integrated approach to environmental responsibility, hygiene, and usability. By expanding the possibilities of natural materials, this product aims to set a new standard for toothbrushes.
